Memory Jacket Print

from 65.00

This handmade linoprint was inspired by the practice of tourist jackets from Mexico in the 30s - 50s. Visitors to Mexico often returned home with embroidered jackets, that although beautiful, were covered with stereotypical scenes that did little to accurately represent the culture, art, or people of the area. With that in mind, I created a design that displays the jacket against lush patterns inspired by Mexican embroidery. The jacket pattern itself is inspired by my memories of growing up in Los Angeles along with the cultural influences/symbols I remember and hold dear.

- Printed by hand on 100% cotton 250 gsm paper from a single linoleum block in my home studio
- Each print contains gold leaf on the rosettes that is applied by hand
- The gold ink on black paper is printed with metallic ink that shimmers in the sun
- The two color prints are made when a single linoleum block is carved and printed with the base ink color, then the same block is carved again and printed on top of the base color to create the multicolor image
- Every block is lovingly designed and carved by hand for each edition of prints
- Colors are custom mixed from oil-based inks
- This print is on 10.5 x 13.5 inch (approx) paper, image size is 9 x 12
- Each print is signed, and limited editions are numbered
- Color combos: lime green/red, metallic gold on black paper, metallic gold/pink, charcoal/teal green.
- This print is sold unmatted

Due to the hand-made nature of these prints and the nature of block printing, minor variations between prints are common
