Memory Jacket Print - Red Ink
Memory Jacket Print - Red Ink
This handmade linoprint was inspired by the practice of tourist jackets from Mexico in the 30s - 50s. Visitors to Mexico often returned home with embroidered jackets, that although beautiful, were covered with stereotypical scenes that did little to accurately represent the culture, art, or people of the area. With that in mind, I created a design that displays the jacket against lush patterns inspired by Mexican embroidery. The jacket pattern itself is inspired by my memories of growing up in Los Angeles along with the cultural influences/symbols I remember and hold dear.
