Metate Tribute Greeting Card

from $5.00

Based on a hand carved linoleum blockprint, this design depicts a metate, and is meant to pay homage to the physical and emotional labor involved in the day-to-day tasks that make domestic life possible; it is the sister design to the Molinillo Tribute print. Stone metates like the one shown here are used to grind corn, chile peppers, and other food staples which become the basis for many traditional meals. Metates are often treated as family heirlooms and passed down through generations of women. A beautiful object in itself, I wanted to depict the metate with reverence, and therefore show reverence to the action of domestic labor as well. The preparation of food is of particular interest to me as it essential for our basic survival, but also provides pleasure, serves an act of affection, and creates the foundation of shared experience with those we share a table with. This image is based on a hand carved linoleum blockprint.

Each 4.25 x 5.5 inch fold-over card is blank inside to hold your personal messages, and comes with a kraft brown envelope. Protective sleeve is compostable.
