Ocotillo Desert Tea Towel

$25.00

This 100% cotton tea towel is printed with an ocotillo and desert landscape, based on an original hand carved block print.

Each towel is made of 130 thread count high quality flour sack cotton, approximately 27 x 27 inches, with an image size of 16 x 20 inches.

This print was inspired by the desert landscape, and the dynamic species who call it home. Ocotillo plants like this one grow up to 20 feet tall, and can be found throughout the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts, from what is now southern California to west Texas, and northern Mexico. Hummingbirds like the Rufous Hummingbird rely on the Ocotillo as a vital nectar source on their incredible annual migration, one that stretches nearly 4000 miles from Alaska to central Mexico for the winter. The Ocotillo and hummingbird depicted here have an ecological relationship that transcends borders, just as humans on this continent have had with the land for hundreds of years. Deserts are often depicted as treacherous, bleak environments, but they are actually ecologically diverse and culturally significant places worth preserving and celebrating. This print is a love letter of sorts to that landscape and those who seek to protect it.
