Yucca Landscape Tea Towel

$25.00

This 100% cotton tea towel is printed with a yucca and desert landscape, based on an original hand carved block print.

Each towel is made of 130 thread count high quality flour sack cotton, approximately 27 x 27 inches, with an image size of 16 x 20 inches

This print was inspired by the desert landscape, and the dynamic species who call it home. The star of this block is the Twistleaf Yucca, native to central Texas (where I live), and one of over 14 Yucca species native to the state. Indigenous people learned how to use various species of Yucca as a source for natural fibers, soap, and food. All Yuccas rely on moths (aptly named, Yucca Moths) for pollination, and in turn, the moths need Yucca blooms to mate and lay their eggs. The Yucca and Yucca Moths depicted here have an ecological relationship that transcends borders, just as humans on this continent have had with the land for hundreds of years. Deserts are often depicted as treacherous, bleak environments, but they are actually ecologically diverse and culturally significant places worth preserving and celebrating. This design is a love letter of sorts to that landscape and those who seek to protect it.
